How a preacher's son learned to play the blues

Eddie Cotton grew up attending church most nights of the week. Despite not being allowed to do much else, he learned more musical genres than he realized in the sanctuary. Good music, he says, means "I won't have to ask you to stand up - I'll have to ask you to sit down."

Eddie Cotton is a blues musician and alumnus of Jackson State University. He lives in Clinton, Mississippi, and you can often find him playing the strings off a guitar somewhere in the Magnolia State or beyond. Oh, and he's still the music minister at his daddy's church.
